“Stregthening Families” Program Helps Adolescents in Bolivia, Columbia, Ecuador, and Peru

PAHO/WHO initiative helps prevent the onset of adolescent drug use in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.

The “Strengthening Families” program promotes family environments that protect 10–14-year-old children in order to prevent substance abuse and other risky behaviors. Since 2012, it has benefited 450 families in the Andean Community.

As a RN graduate student at the Medical University of SC (Charleston) I spent a year using the Strengthening Families model to work with young mothers and their children. How incredible to see it in action these countries.
